My grandfather passed away a few hours ago and I can't sleep. So, I dug up some pictures of him and made this in his memory. That's me and my grandpa in 2002.

He was German to the core, 2nd-3rd generation American, and 100% Chicagoian. His notably stubborn ways were unsurpassed, but he accomplished what he set out to do. And when it was his time, he was ready and satisfied with the life he lived. I pray you too are welcomed in the glorious infinities of Shangri-La, and I thank you for spawning the life I currently live. Much love to you Grandpa, I hope to see you in 50-60 years!

Jake

I am truly very sorry for your devastating loss. I lost my grandfather a few years ago, and it was extremely difficult for me, as he was my one true father figure I ever had in my life. *hugs Jake* He's up there in Shangri-La, looking upon you and smiling, along with my grandfather, Druss's dad, my mother, my aunts, and most of my uncles.

Thank you everyone. I have a reasonable feeling that he's OK wherever he is. All I have is 1 grandparent left... BOOM BOOM CHEESE! ...as I called him before he went into a coma and woke up a different person. Tongue Out

Thanks, all. Today was the funeral and yesterday the wake, but it was back in Chicago. I didn't go... I could have though. I didn't really have a reason for not going... I mean other than work and being in Phoenix, but I could have put that on hold. I don't know. Eh.

Stay strong. I know its hard but it will get better in time.I just try to remember my gramps in my everyday life. Not his death.Like Everyday I go to work, I think of him.Cause I always remember him bitching "Young people today are so lazy, I had to pick coal when I was 11". I laugh.
Cause it just seems like he said that a minute ago not 9 years ago when I was a lazy stoner.

My thoughts aren't clear when it comes to posthumus events. Do we spend a lot of time before the finale, or do we just make everything brief?

I've been to only one funeral in my life, and I must say it was a very awkward experience for me. At the time I wasn't really saddend at the fact that my great grand father had just died, seeing how I hardly knew the guy. But it was hard for me to repress my tears when I'd see the people that I've known not to cry to actually cry. I'm truely sorry for your loss, Essix. I can somewhat relate.

Yeah he was stubborn in the face of death too.  My turn to die? No, screw you, I'm living to 93!  Since most of my family is back in Chicago, I've never been to a funeral in my life.  Not exactly looking forward to one.  Then again, I rarely look forward to any social events.  I'll have to go back and visit his grave some day.  Been 3 years since I was in Chicago.
